Sept. 8th – T-minus 5 weeks
Last weekend I went to the Luanda Jazz Festival. I was pleasantly surprised by how professional and organized it was. I am not a big jazz guy but most of the acts weren’t Jazz at all. They had bands from all over the world, but mostly African names. I have to admit, I had not heard of any of them but good music is good music. Here is a picture of the band Freshly Ground. They were more rock/indie rock so I am not really sure why they were there but they put on a good show.

There was also this guy called Oliver Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe that put on a good show and another band called 340ml that mixed in some local rappers in the songs. So if you are looking for some African bands to add to your iPod, try these. Oh, forgot to mention – tickets PER NIGHT for the Jazzfest were $150.
On an unrelated but more important note, it looks like my last day of work will be September 8th. That is only 5 weeks from today! I am really excited to get back to the US (particularly Pittsburgh) and see my friends and family. I will keep you posted if something changes but you can expect to see me soon.
